December 26 2003--Textiles Secretary S B Mohapatra inaugurated the ‘Branding Strategies’ conference organized at India Habitat Center, New Delhi by Pearl Academy of Fashion. Confluence of leaders in branding and retailing, including Arndt Brockmann – Puma (Germany), Shumone Chatterjee - Levi Stauss, Martin Raymond – Viewpoint (UK) and Vinod Kaul – FDCI was seen at ‘Branding Strategies’. The seminar series covered various national and international branding strategies and discussed various challenges and case studies. The event was widely attended by brand managers and retailers.
Shimone Chatterjee, Vice President, Levi Strauss (Levi’s) India, said: "Managing a physical experience and innovating continuously needs to be an integral critical part of the brand positioning statement to ensure unflattering commitment over time.” He widely emphasized on successful brand building and it’s relationship with higher growth prospects for retailing.
A host of dignitaries, including Prof. Edward Newton – IFFTI, Martin Shoben – LCFS (UK), Manfred Mroz – LDT Nagold (Germany), Sue Keen – Nottingham Trent University (UK) and others were present at the conference and shared international vision and trends. Martin Raymond, Editor, Viewpoint, UK covered implications of brand in internationalization. He said "We are witnessing the birth of a new era, 'the idea century', under the death of lifestyle and the rise of life prisons. It's not longer about what brands can do for you, but what you can do for them."
Speaking on the state of fashion brands in India Vinod Kaul, Executive Director, Fashion Design Council of India, said “There are no significant women’s wear brand in India. There is no size or technical standardization. While some brands have made headway, there's little brand loyalty. Brand differentials are still largely price and value-based.”
