January 29 2004--Levi Stubbs, the incomparable vocalist of Motown Records' legendary supergroup, The Four Tops, is being honored by his friends, family, fans, and supporters, during a very special celebration entitled: "It’s all the way live with Levi - 50 Years & Still Going", featuring The Four Tops at the Roostertail Club in Detroit on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 beginning at 7:00 p.m. The event will also celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Levi & the Four Tops, the only Motown recording group that has stayed together for more than half a century. This date will also be remembered as a very momentous occasion for Black History Month.
Stubbs, who has not been performing with the group since 2000, is home recovering from a mild heart attack and a stroke. This event will mark the first official event Levi has participated in since his recovery.
In attendance will be The Temptations, The Contours, Mary Wilson, Dennis Edwards, The Miracles, The Marvelettes, The Spinners, The Dells, Ollie Woodson, The Satin Tones, The Supremes including members Cindy Birdsong, Jean Terrell, Sherry Payne, and a very special appearance from the world’s most renowned king and queen of soul music. Also, several national celebrity recording artists and musicians who have known and/or worked with this legendary group for the past fifty years. Our hostess for the evening will be “The first lady of Motown” Claudette Robinson of “The Miracles” comedian Damon Williams, along with other surprise guests.
The Roostertail Club, one of the top clubs in Detroit and a showcase for all of the early Motown acts, was a natural choice to host this landmark event. In fact, The Four Tops recorded their first ‘live’ album, and a television special with the Temptations for Showtime on The Roostertail Club stage.
A very special video presentation showcasing 50 years with the Four Tops will be screened, plus video greetings from superstar music artists attending the 2004 Grammys, and encouraging get well wishes from event sponsors.
Proceeds of the event will benefit The Gwendolyn B. Gordy Fuqua Memorial Fund for Motown artists of the 60’s and 70’s in need of medical and financial resources. Please visit www.rhythm-n-blues.org
